1. Check Windows 11 and Choose a Trusted Download

Clash Verge Rev is a desktop client for managing Clash-compatible configurations and proxy cores. Installing the client does not, by itself, provide a subscription, proxy nodes, or an active connection. Think of setup as three separate steps: install the Windows app, make sure its core can start, and then import a configuration you are authorized to use. Keeping those steps separate makes it easier to identify what went wrong if the app opens but no traffic is routed.

Before downloading, check your PC’s system architecture. In Windows 11, open Settings → System → About and look under System type. Most Windows 11 PCs use an x64 processor, but some devices use ARM64. Choose an installer that matches the architecture listed for your device. If the download page offers more than one package and you are unsure which one applies, confirm the architecture before opening a file rather than trying packages at random.

  • Check the product name: Make sure the download is for Clash Verge Rev, not a similarly named client or an unrelated utility.
  • Use a trusted source: Start from the site’s download page and follow its current package information. Avoid repackaged installers, download mirrors you cannot verify, and files linked from unsolicited messages.
  • Check the file: Confirm that the downloaded filename and file type match the package information. A download that ends in an unexpected extension, or opens as a web page, may not be the installer you intended to get.
  • Keep the installer available: Save it somewhere easy to find, such as the Windows Downloads folder. You can remove the installer after setup if you no longer need it.

2. Run the Installer and Complete Setup

When the download finishes, open File Explorer and go to the folder where you saved the installer. Double-click the file to begin. The exact screens can vary by package and release, so use the installer’s displayed instructions rather than relying on steps intended for a different version. If Windows asks whether you want to allow the app to make changes to your device, check the app name and publisher information shown in the prompt before choosing Yes.

  1. Close conflicting setup attempts. If an installer is already running, let it finish before launching another copy. If an older installation is open, close the app first so its files are not in use.
  2. Read the setup options. Follow the on-screen prompts and review any options for the installation location or shortcuts. Leave optional system-level features disabled for now unless you already know you need them.
  3. Allow only expected permissions. A normal application install may request permission to write files or create shortcuts. A request to add a network driver or enable TUN is a separate, more privileged operation and is not required just to open the client.
  4. Wait for completion. Do not close the installer while it is copying files or registering the app. When it reports that setup is complete, use its launch option if available, or open the app from the Start menu.
  5. Keep one installation path. If you update or reinstall later, avoid running multiple copies from different folders at the same time. That can make it unclear which app instance is managing settings or using the core.

If setup fails, note the exact message and the point at which it appeared. A permission error, a blocked file, and an unsupported package are different problems; repeating the same installer action without checking the message usually does not help. Confirm that the downloaded package matches the device architecture, that the file completed downloading, and that Windows has enough free disk space.

3. Understand SmartScreen, Antivirus, and Permission Prompts

Windows 11 may display a security notice when an app is unfamiliar or its publisher cannot be verified. A warning is not proof that a file is malicious, but it is also not a reason to bypass the warning automatically. First confirm that you downloaded the intended Clash Verge Rev package from a source you trust. Check the displayed app name and publisher, and compare them with the information provided for that release. If the details do not match, or you cannot establish where the file came from, cancel the prompt and do not run it.

Microsoft Defender or another security product may also scan the installer. If it reports a specific threat, stop and review the detection details. Do not turn off real-time protection just to make an installer run, and do not create a broad antivirus exclusion for the Downloads folder. If you believe a detection is a false positive, verify the package’s origin and ask the software provider or your organization’s administrator for guidance.

Windows prompt or symptom What to check Safer next step
“Do you want to allow this app to make changes?” The app name and publisher shown in the UAC dialog Approve only if they match the installer you intentionally opened and trust.
SmartScreen says the app is unrecognized The download source, package name, and release information Cancel if you cannot verify the file; do not treat a warning as routine.
Antivirus reports a threat The detection name and the file’s origin Do not disable protection. Verify the package or contact the software provider.
TUN or driver permission is requested Whether you deliberately enabled a feature that needs a network driver Decline for initial setup if you only need to test the app and system proxy.
The installer exits or reports an error The full message, package architecture, and whether the download completed Resolve the specific issue before downloading or running another package.

Windows may ask for elevated permission again when you enable a feature that changes network settings or installs a driver. That is not the same as the initial application install. For a first launch, keep optional capture features such as TUN off until the client opens normally and you have a working configuration. You can evaluate them later, one at a time.

4. Open Clash Verge Rev for the First Time

After installation, open Clash Verge Rev from the Start menu or from the shortcut created during setup. Give the application a moment to initialize. If Windows Firewall asks about network access, read the app name and the requested access carefully. Do not approve access for an unfamiliar executable or a file whose origin you cannot verify. On a managed work or school PC, follow your organization’s network policy.

The first screen may be empty or may indicate that no configuration is active. That does not necessarily mean installation failed. A newly installed client typically needs a compatible core and a usable configuration before it can route connections. The core may be provided, downloaded, or selected through the client’s own controls depending on the package and current release. Follow the options shown in your version, and check for a clear error if a core cannot be started.

  1. Confirm the interface opens. The main window should remain usable rather than immediately closing. If it disappears, check the Windows notification area and Start menu before assuming it failed to launch; the app may be running in the background.
  2. Check core status. Look for the client’s core or runtime status and read any error shown there. The interface version and the core version are not the same. A configuration that uses newer protocols or fields may need a compatible core.
  3. Add a trusted configuration. Import a configuration or subscription only from a provider you trust and are permitted to use. Subscription URLs can contain private access tokens, so do not post them in screenshots, public issue reports, or online conversion services.
  4. Make the configuration active. A configuration appearing in a list is not always the same as it being selected and running. Check the client’s status after selecting it, and look for parsing or startup errors.
  5. Start with the simplest capture method. If your configuration is ready, use the system proxy for an initial test when appropriate. Leave TUN off until you have verified basic operation; TUN changes how eligible network traffic enters the core and may require additional permissions.

5. Verify That Installation Worked and Narrow Down Problems

Installation is confirmed when the app launches and stays open; basic proxy operation is a separate check. To test the latter, make sure a configuration is active, the core has started without a parsing error, and the intended proxy group or policy has a usable selection. Then use a browser that follows Windows system proxy settings to load a page. If the browser cannot connect, inspect the client’s connection or log view and compare the selected policy with the rule that should handle the request.

A blank configuration list points to an import or file-selection issue, not necessarily a broken installer. An error such as “unsupported proxy type” or “unknown field” suggests that the active core may not support something in the configuration. A core that exits immediately may have a startup error, a missing dependency, or a configuration problem. Record the exact message rather than changing several settings at once.

  • App does not appear: Search for Clash Verge Rev in the Start menu, check whether it is already running in the notification area, and try launching it once from its installed shortcut. Avoid repeatedly opening multiple installer copies.
  • Installer was blocked: Recheck the source, architecture, and security details. If you cannot verify the package, remove it and obtain a fresh copy from the trusted download page.
  • App opens but nothing connects: Check whether a configuration is active, whether the core is running, and whether a proxy group has a valid selection. An installed client without a working configuration cannot create a usable route.
  • Some apps still connect directly: Not every program follows the Windows system proxy setting. Verify system-proxy behavior with a compatible app before considering TUN, and understand the permissions and routing changes TUN may require.
  • Another VPN or proxy is running: Temporarily stop the other network tool before testing. Competing proxy settings, virtual adapters, or routes can make results difficult to interpret.

Once the basic test succeeds, change only one setting at a time. If you later enable TUN, approve a driver request only when it is expected and comes from the app you installed. Confirm that traffic behaves as intended, then record the setting that changed. If the result gets worse, restore the previous setting before troubleshooting a different part of the setup.
